Mike Barnett Sports Centre, Rockingham

The Unicare team were thrilled to return for another fantastic year at Have a Go Day Rockingham, Perth’s largest annual expo for people over 55! Have a Go Day Rockingham is a LiveLighter Event that focuses on senior’s staying active, healthy and connected. With stalls ranging from healthcare providers to community club organisations, there was something for everyone to visit and explore!

With almost 100 stalls filling in the Mike Barnett Sports Centre, seniors had ample opportunity to explore services and technology that promote safe, fulfilling, and independent living.

Showcasing the Power of Assistive Technology
Unicare was delighted to be on site to showcase the enabling power of assistive technology, and how our equipment can support senior safety and independence. The equipment range displayed on Unicare’s #SafeSeniors stall can support and enable people of varying mobility to carry out their daily activities with ease.

In the Kitchen
For our passionate chefs dealing with arthritic pain or weakness in their hands, look no further than the iconic One Touch range! These handy battery-operated devices effortlessly open jars, bottles and cans at the touch of a button, meaning you no longer need to wrestle with pesky overtightened lids.

Alongside the One Touch range featured a number of kitchen aids staples, such as bendable cutlery for easy, adaptable use, angled kitchen knives for ergonomical control, and food preparation stations to make assembling meals safer and more stable. We also featured the Uccello Tippable Kettle, described by multiple re-visiting seniors as “the best thing they’ve ever bought!”.

Hygiene and Dressing
For those who lack range of motion or experience pain in their joints, personal care tasks like showering and dressing can be more challenging. That’s why our stand featured a wide range of aids designed to help people look and feel their best.

Handy tools like a long-handled sponge and long-handled toe washer grants the ability to effectively clean all parts of the body without unnecessarily bending over in a slippery environment.

For grooming, a long-handled comb allows people with restricted shoulder movement to reach their head, brush and style their own hair.
Getting dressed with limited mobility can be needlessly strenuous on joints, and supports like a dressing stick, button hook and sock aid can alleviate pain or frustration caused by these fine motor tasks.

Safety First
It’s not just about making daily tasks easier—many of our products are designed with fall prevention and safety in mind. The trusty Posey Fall Management Socks garnered attention with their bright colours and skid resistant rubber tread. The Handy-Bar also drew attention from the crowd, impressing visitors with its simple yet clever design. This portable support tool fits securely into your car door’s latch and acts as a sturdy “grab rail” for safer vehicle transfers.

The ever-popular reachers are also reliable for falls prevention, as they eliminate the need to bend over to retrieve fallen items, like keys or coins.

The #SafeSeniors stand was surrounded all day by curious visitors, great conversations, and a flurry of interest in our goodie bags filled with helpful information. It was a pleasure to engage with so many people passionate about positive ageing experiences and living safely at home.

Thank you
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat, share stories, and learn more about how assistive technology can support ageing with confidence. We truly value these connections and look forward to seeing you again at the next event—with more great conversations and even more helpful AT solutions to share. ✨
