WA Seniors Awards Ceremony 2022
ANZAC House
Wednesday 16 November 2022
These are a few happy faces representing a stellar team that have made Unicare Health the deserving recipients of the WA Seniors Award 2022 in the Age-friendly Business category.
Presented by The Honourable Don Punch MLA, Minister for Disability Services; Small Business; Fisheries; Seniors and Ageing, the WA Seniors Award is a state government award that recognises the very best individuals, local governments, and businesses who contribute to an age-friendly Western Australia.
This prestigious awards ceremony was hosted by Council on the Ageing (WA) Inc. in partnership with the Government of Western Australia, Department of Communities.
Unicare Health was announced as the winner of the 2022 WA Age Friendly Business of the year award for its outstanding commitment to supporting and improving the lives of seniors over many years, with particular acknowledgement given to Unicare’s #safeseniors campaign.
This award was received by Curtis Dartnall, Operations Manager at Unicare Health.
Curtis delivered a moving speech that painted a heartwarming picture of what the Unicare Health team does every day to support WA Seniors across the state.
Initiated in 2019, Unicare Health’s #safeseniors campaign raises awareness of Assistive Technology (AT) to help seniors live safely and independently at home.
#safeseniors events and activities are designed to increase older adults’ knowledge and understanding of AT, allowing them to make an informed decision about implementing these solutions to overcome healthcare challenges and participate in their own daily activities.
#safeseniors also raises awareness of the risks associated with improper use of AT, such as being pushed around on a 4-wheeled seat walker or driving a mobility scooter on the road. This initiative encourages seniors to use AT appropriately and responsibly at home and in the community to reduce unnecessary accidents and give them the confidence to live full and satisfying lives.
#safeseniors is funded by Unicare Health’s Give Back efforts, using proceeds from the sale of AT as an ongoing commitment to improve community care and promote independent living. This improves health and well being, allowing older people to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. This initiative is aligned with Unicare Health’s ‘More than care’ values, as well as the company’s reputable conduct as a socially responsible business.
“We are grateful to receive this state government honour, which recognises the outstanding contributions made by exceptional people and organisations who have gone above and beyond to improve the lives of older West Australians. We are proud of our #safeseniors achievements and enjoy the ongoing work that we do at Unicare Health that contributes towards building better and safer senior communities. ” – Greg Dartnall, Managing Director.
