Unicare a finalist in the 2021 Injury Matters Injury Prevention & Safety Promotion Awards
Great news! We are pleased to announce that Unicare Health has been selected as a finalist for a 2021 Injury Matters Injury Prevention & Safety Promotion Award through our marketing campaign #stopthepressure.
This award recognises individuals and organisations who are having a positive impact on the community by conducting activities that aim to prevent and reduce the impact of injury within WA.
#stopthepressure is an initiative driven by Unicare Health to stop pressure injuries (PIs) from developing through the education of effective prevention & management techniques and intelligent use of pressure care devices.
What is #stopthepressure all about?
What are Pressure Injuries (PIs)?
PIs are wounds resulting from prolonged pressure on the skin. PIs often develop on skin covering bony prominences, like heels, ankles, hips and tailbone.
Who is at risk?
PIs are common and preventable. Anyone with limited mobility, from infants to the elderly can develop PIs. High-risk populations include elderly people, people with a disability and the critically ill.
Why #stopthepressure?
PIs are the 3rd most costly health condition behind cardiovascular disease and cancer. They are preventable causes of pain, suffering and loss of life. PIs cause increased morbidity & mortality, longer hospital stays, and raised financial costs.
When did #stopthepressure begin?
#stopthepressure began in 2018 to stop PIs from developing through
- awareness raising and advocacy
- education of effective prevention and management techniques
- education of intelligent use of pressure care devices to reduce the impact of PIs
- partnerships and collaboration with providers caring for high-risk populations
How is #stopthepressure delivered?
#stopthepressure reinforces clinical methodologies from the International Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of PIs.
#stopthepressure is delivered through collaboration with providers caring for high-risk populations such as hospitals, aged care and disability providers.
#stopthepressure adopts a multidisciplinary approach to PI prevention and management, integrating corporate and clinical boundaries to raise awareness and advocate, delivering education suited to different target groups providing different levels of healthcare.
#stopthepressure events have been delivered in partnership with

- Aged care providers
