Unicare empowers seniors to live independently at Rockingham Seniors and Carers Expo 2023

Rockingham Seniors and Carers Expo 2023
Friday, 6 October 2023
Mike Barnett Sports Complex
The Unicare Health team stepped out to demonstrate our best at-home Assistive Technology (AT) at the City of Rockingham’s Seniors and Carers Expo.

This is the largest annual seniors’ event by the City of Rockingham. From its humble beginnings in 2009 at the Gary Holland Community centre, the event has grown larger every year. This was its largest to date, with over 1500 people in attendance.

Unicare was among 120 stalls available for seniors and carers to explore. We enjoyed showing off our range of assistive devices, chatting with attendees, and even giving them a few goodies! 😄

Unicare is proud to have been a corporate sponsor of this year’s much-anticipated event. Seniors from the South Perth region enjoyed talking to our friendly team and exploring our #safeseniors booth.

#safeseniors is a unicare initiative and marketing campaign, designed to raise awareness of AT and how it can enable older people to live safely and independently at home. Assistive devices like mobility walkers, automatic kitchen gadgets, showering, toileting, and dressing aids offer practical solutions to make daily tasks easier and safer around the house for older people.

Attendees had a fun time learning about products designed to help them carry out daily living tasks safely and independently. From bathroom safety products and fall prevention equipment to everyday living aids, there was something for everyone at the Unicare booth.

Old friends and familiar faces dropped by the stall to share with us how AT helped them continue living independently. They shared inspiring stories about how these tools were helping them to thrive.

Attendees took the chance to discover kitchen gadgets that make meal preparation more accessible and safe. The one-touch range of tools was a crowd favourite, featuring an automatic bottle opener, can opener, and jar opener.

These battery-operated openers adjust to fit most bottle cap and jar sizes to open them effortlessly. By twisting bottles open or safely lifting the lids off cans and jars, they are ideal assistive tools for anyone with limited hand strength.

Car accessories like the Handy Bar and AutoSlide Transfer Seat caught the eyes of passers-by. These portable tools help you to get in and out of the car safely and comfortably. The Handy Bar offers a lightweight, safe and supportive handhold for car transfers, while the AutoSlide Transfer Seat helps with positioning when entering and exiting vehicles.

When it came to the kitchen, the Food Preparation System and the Uccello Tippable Kettle were the stars of the show. The Food Preparation system is an all-in-one benchtop device that makes meal preparation easy. It features a grater, a slicer, stainless steel spikes to hold food in place, a clamp to stabilize tins and bowls, and more. The Uccello kettle is perfect for anyone with limited hand strength or wrist movement, offering effortless tilt-and-pour action to deliver hot water safely.
It was wonderful chatting with so many older people who were enthusiastic about independent living. Attendees marvelled at the wide range of equipment on offer. There was one thing people loved to say after visiting our booth: “There’s something for everyone now!”
