Unicare continues to promote independent living and home safety at Have a Go Day Burswood 2023

What’s better than a day of fun out in the sunshine?
The air was buzzing with excitement this year at Have a Go Day, Perth’s premier event for seniors. Often called ‘the Royal Show for seniors’, Have a Go Day is run by the Seniors Recreation Council of WA and has been delivering free activities and information since 1991. This day is now regarded as the headline event for WA Seniors Week, and draws in crowds of over 15,000 people every year!

Burswood Park
Burswood Park, with its scenic riverside, provided the perfect backdrop for an incredible day. With 220 stalls, games, and food trucks, plus a full schedule of performances to enjoy, there was so much to explore! This event was the perfect opportunity to learn about healthy ageing, try out new clubs and games, and indulge in a delicious array of foods and drinks.

As a LiveLighter event, Have a Go Day is all about helping you live happily and healthily. This fun-filled day encourages you to stay active through exercise, socialising, healthy eating, and a good dose of laughter. Living lighter is about feeling good and taking care of your well-being — but most importantly, it’s about having fun!

#safeseniors
Unicare is passionate about helping seniors stay fit, happy, and active with handy assistive technology. So, we were thrilled to take part!

Our #safeseniors booth teaches you about handy assistive technology to make day-to-day tasks easier. Visitors explored our treasure trove of assistive devices for around the home, which empower your independence and safety. Bathroom safety products, helpful kitchen gadgets, and everyday living aids were on display for visitors to have a go with and chat to us about.

Assistive technology can make a significant difference in your daily life. The right tools deliver the help you need to carry out your routine with ease. From mobility walkers to automatic kitchen gadgets, showering, toileting, and dressing aids, there are plenty of tools available to help you.

What’s on display?
Our trigger-operated reachers and grabbers drew in a crowd. These devices allow you to pick up small objects without having to bend over. The rubber tips of these reachers have magnets inside, making them good for picking up metal items like coins. Unicare’s reachers come in a variety of sizes and shapes, making them handy for picking up different items.

The sock and stocking aid is helpful for people who have difficulty bending. Slip your sock over the padded edge, then place your foot inside. Pulling on the handles makes the sock slide into place with ease.

Individuals with arthritis or reduced hand strength can benefit from the One Touch range of kitchen gadgets, including jar openers, can openers, and bottle openers. With the press of a button, these devices twist off lids easily, with no extra effort on your part. The Uccello Tip Kettle also helps individuals with Parkinson’s or limited grip strength. With its easy tilt-and-pour design, it takes the difficulty out of enjoying your hot beverages.

If you have difficulty lifting or bending your arm, a long-handled sponge can help. The curved scrub sponge makes it easier to wash hard-to-reach parts of your body, helping you stay clean and comfortable.

The food preparation system is an all-in-one kitchen solution for cooking and meal preparation. It features a removable grater and slicer with a mess-reducing cover, stainless steel spikes for secure food positioning, a removable clamp, a suction brush for easy cleaning, and a raised L-shaped corner for one-handed spreading.

Shoprider
It was lovely to have Shoprider join us in displaying their new and updated scooters! Shoprider is a trusted name in mobility and has been a leading supplier of mobility scooters in Australia since 1998. This year, they have released a number of innovative upgrades to their power mobility scooters. The Shoprider Allrounder and Explorer scooters have been updated with features like user-friendly dashboards that make them easy to drive, plus USB ports for charging your phone, LED headlights for getting around in the evening, and storage pockets to keep all your items handy. Everyone at Have A Go Day had a fun time getting familiar with the new upgrades!
