What a fantastic event put together by the Seniors Recreation Council of WA (SRCWA) Rockingham Branch, volunteers, and staff!

Unicare Health has enjoyed taking part in SRCWA’s Have a Go Day events since 2017.

Hundreds of seniors from Rockingham and the nearby suburbs attended this event to network with a variety of provider groups, recreation groups, non-profit organisations, and companies that offer products and services to support people over 55.

Many seniors had a great time dancing the morning away!

The Unicare Health team had an enjoyable time introducing assistive technology to everyone who stopped by our #safeseniors booth.

Assistive technology provides practical solutions to help seniors do things easier and safer around the house. Some examples include mobility walkers, automatic kitchen gadgets, showering, toileting, and dressing aids.

Our #safeseniors booth is set up to showcase a variety of assistive technology for seniors to ‘Have a Go’. This increases older adults’ knowledge and comprehension of assistive technology, allowing them to make an informed decision about implementing these solutions to overcome healthcare challenges and participate in their own daily activities.

For those experiencing effects of ageing on hand function, using a food workstation to secure food while slicing, chopping, grating, and mixing, gives them confidence and independence to prepare their own meals safely.

A raised toilet seat with arms is an excellent toilet aid to help those who have trouble bending or sitting. It raises the sitting position and has a deep splash guard to minimise soiling.

Seniors enjoyed learning about and using assistive technology, including how to use a variety of dressing aids, dining utensils, and accessories to help minimise the effort required to complete tasks in the kitchen.

Using an automatic jar opener for tight-fitting jar caps instead of prying them open with a knife encourages seniors to do things easier and safer around the house.

Seniors also learned about unique products such as bendable cutlery, which enables those with limited hand and wrist mobility to bend the utensil left or right so that they can feed themselves independently.

We enjoyed a busy day with Rockingham seniors at Have a Go Day, listening to their ageing concerns and introducing them to assistive technology designed to help them overcome common ageing challenges such as arthritis, falls, and Parkinson’s. Lots were amazed by the number of independent daily living aids they did not know existed!

We love it when customers stop by to say hello, and we were thrilled to see one of them still carrying our show bag from many years ago!

Thank you

The Unicare Health team would like to thank our friends at the Seniors Recreation Council of WA for inviting us to participate in Have a Go Day every year, as well as the hardworking volunteers and staff who help to make this event even better each year.
Thank you for your tremendous effort in hosting events to keep Perth Seniors connected, active, and healthy.

The show was a great opportunity to us to meet new friends, catch up with old ones, and exhibit alongside our community care partners.

We look forward to being a part of the show again next year! 😃
