Unicare Health promotes independent living and home safety at Astley Care Open Day 2023 #safeseniors
As we grow older, the idea of seeking out extra care can be daunting. Most of us would prefer to age in place, in the comfort of our own homes. Thankfully, helpful services exist to make this possible.
On 18 October 2023, Unicare Health travelled to Gosnells and had the pleasure of participating in Astley Care’s Open Day. We understand that it can be hard to maintain independence as we grow older, or to provide care for a loved one who wants to live at home. It’s not always easy to know where to find help. This special event was created to showcase the available at-home support options for older people and caregivers.
Astley Care Open Day
Astley Care provides excellent support services for older people and caregivers, allowing them to continue living in their own homes. They offer a wide range of flexible services to meet each person’s unique needs, including domestic assistance, shopping assistance, social groups and travel support. Astley Care is dedicated to helping older people stay active in their local communities.
During the Open Day, we displayed our range of home care products for visitors to explore. Many people stopped by throughout the day to learn about products that could help them stay safe and independent at home.
Attendees enjoyed getting hands-on experience with our supportive equipment, including our range of mobility aids and seat walkers. Our rose gold Viva walker was particularly popular, being both fashionable and functional.
Our team also had the pleasure of talking to visiting OTs and caregivers about home assistive technology options. Attendees were able to try out various tools to assist them and their clients around the house. These included kitchen aids like the One Touch range, perfect for those with limited wrist mobility, and dressing aids such as the sock and stocking aid.
Our friends at Astley Care gave a presentation to the community, titled ‘Demystifying Aged Care Support at Home’. This gave older attendees and caregivers a chance to understand the complex world of at-home assistance. General Manager Laura O’Reilly detailed the differences in CHSP and HCP funding. She also emphasised the importance of My Aged Care: “If there’s anything you’re unsure about when it comes to seeking assistance, My Aged Care is the best place to contact”.
To show our appreciation for everyone who stopped by, we gave away goodie bags filled with special treats to take home.
Thank You
At Unicare, we take pride in supporting living at home for people with varying care needs. We believe that the right assistive technology can make a world of difference in helping you and your loved ones live more comfortably. We trust that everyone who stopped by was inspired to explore more at-home assistive equipment. Thank you for reading, and we hope to see you next time!
