Equipment Selection
An extensive suite of aged care equipment was supplied by Unicare Health for Michael Lee Centre after a comprehensive assessment of their resident and care giver needs.
One of the goals during the equipment selection process was to achieve quality and sustainable health outcomes for residents through effective use and management of equipment.
The quality and features of equipment was an important consideration for the provision of care and its significance driven by technological and clinical innovations to reduce laborious manual processes, increase staff efficiencies and provide added safety. Management understood that a new generation of equipment driven by innovation and added safety for residents and care staff would bring a rise in capability and performance.
Equipment provided by Unicare Health for Michael Lee Centre included a suite of mobile shower commodes by leading manufacturers JUVOcare, Regency Care Chairs, Wheelchairs and Pressure Care Cushions, Seat Walkers, Walking frames, Patient Hoists, Shower Trolleys, Scales, Over Bed/Chair Tables, Dressing Trolleys, Laundry equipment and more.
These pieces of equipment were clinically selected for their durability, innovation, automation of tasks, ease of use, resident & carer safety, infection control properties and more.
Long Term Equipment Support
The business viability of a supplier to provide long term equipment support was also a consideration by procurement during their supplier selection process, as they recognize that equipment is essential to the effective delivery of daily resident care.
Good equipment support is critical in keeping resident care services functioning because the unavailability of equipment or failure of equipment presents risks to residents, staff and care delivery.
Selecting a supplier to facilitate long term equipment maintenance was a key enabling objective.
Asset Management
The management of hundreds of physical pieces of equipment for a 130-bed residential aged care facility is confronting. Aged care equipment are specialised assets, many technically complex, requiring specialist expertise to use, manage, assess and repair.
As care staff tend to become reliant on them to provide safe daily care, a piece of equipment such as a patient hoist requires focused and frequent attention. In an aged care setting, they represent a considerable investment and operating cost, with potentially severe consequences following inadequate performance or failure.
Unicare Health’s cloud-based asset maintenance system Unitrax recognizes these characteristics and is designed to ensure equipment meets clinical requirements, is effectively maintained, is replaced when and only when it needs to be, and that additional equipment is acquired when needed.
Unitrax is designed for facilities to meet its care delivery objectives efficiently and effectively and minimise risk associated with equipment downtime.
