Mobility Chit Chat

Unicare Health, Bentley
We were thrilled to have members of the Perth community join us for an informational session about mobility equipment at our newly built Experience Hub in Bentley. Our Experience Hub is part of our Assistive Technology Collaboration Centre and features a stunning showroom where you can explore and try out our extensive range of products. During the Mobility Chit Chat session, our visitors learned about some of our most popular mobility equipment.
Seat Walkers
Let’s start with walkers. When choosing a walker, what should you look for? If you need the flexibility to sit down during your outings, you might consider a hybrid model like the Ansa Trekker. It flips around to function as a wheelchair as well. However, it’s important to note that while hybrid models are convenient, they may not offer the best of both worlds. For someone looking for a durable and lightweight solution, the Viva Walker might be a better and more user-friendly option.
The Viva Walker features larger wheels, making it perfect for daily outings like a trip to the shops or a walk around the park. It also has a storage bag to keep your items within reach and a lightweight frame that folds easily for compact storage. Plus, we can’t help but mention the stylish rose gold and meteor grey colours that give this walker a touch of flair.
Wheelchairs
Now, let’s talk about wheelchairs. Choosing the right wheelchair involves a lot of factors. Do you prefer a wheelchair that you can propel on your own or one that requires someone else to help push you around? Will you be using it indoors or outdoors, and how frequently will you need it? Remember that at Unicare, we offer free in-home trials for most of our equipment. It’s a good idea to take advantage of this when you’re buying a wheelchair or walker, so that you can see what fits best with your lifestyle.
One of our most popular wheelchairs is the Echo Lite. It’s a lightweight wheelchair that’s easy to store and transport. The Echo Lite comes in three different varieties – manual, transit, and transport – ensuring there’s an option to fit your specific needs. Another excellent choice with excellent adjustability is the Breezy Basix, which allows for customisation of almost every feature.
Assistive Technology Around the House
During this session, we were delighted to answer our participants questions about mobility aids like walking sticks and tray walkers. This included questions like what the benefit of a four-pronged walking stick is, and how can a tray walker help you prevent falls around the house!
We also touched on essential bathroom products that can enhance your stability. A simple toilet frame or raised toilet seat can make all the difference when it comes to supporting your posture and keeping you steady on your feet. If you have difficulty raising or lowering yourself from a standard toilet seat, these are great options to help you keep your independence in the bathroom.
While we chatted, we enjoyed a delicious morning tea together, complete with tea and Nespresso coffee. Everybody who joined us had the chance to take a look around our showroom and ask our experts for recommendations. It was lovely to help more people get to know about mobility!
