Lunar New Year Longevity Luncheon
16 February, 2024
18 Radalj Place, Balcatta
Chung Wah Community Care held its annual longevity luncheon this year to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Dragon. As a preferred equipment partner and proud sponsor of this event, we were thrilled to join in the festivities and support Perth’s vibrant multicultural community.
The Chung Wah Association has been serving culturally and linguistically diverse communities in Western Australia since 1909. For over 40 years, they have also provided professional care to help seniors and people with disabilities improve their well-being and integration into the community. Chung Wah Community Care cares for over 1000 seniors, NDIS clients, and their families. Events like this luncheon are excellent opportunities to bring people together, spread joy, and foster cultural exchange.
The Year of the Dragon
In Chinese culture, the dragon holds deep symbolic meaning. As the only mythical creature in the zodiac, the dragon represents auspiciousness, authority, courage, wisdom, strength, and good fortune. Its revered status is rooted in ancient traditions and still carries rich cultural significance today.
The hall was beautifully decorated with works by Chung Wah’s talented artists, including paintings, sculptures, and dazzling dresses.
When we took to our seats, we were treated to stunning performances that showcased the diverse talents of the Chung Wah community. Musical acts, dances, Tai Chi displays, and more had us captivated. The energy and passion poured into these performances were especially delightful to see!
Longevity: Living Long, and Living Well
Chung Wah’s chairperson, Ms. Esther Chang, gave a speech emphasising the organisation’s goal of promoting longevity. This means helping people not only to live longer, but also to live well. At Unicare Health, we focus on helping seniors live well by helping them stay active and independent. With assistive technology, we aim to break down barriers and help seniors embrace life with confidence, passion, and joy.
In keeping with their spirit of embracing the future, Chung Wah has also launched an innovative new radio station. With the help of AI technology, this news channel will broadcast local stories in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Vietnamese. By doing so, they hope to build bridges that will help people connect across different languages. During these exciting announcements, we enjoyed a delicious multi-course meal, including the traditional “prosperity salad” Yee Sang!
The hall was filled with life and music, with talented lion dancers weaving between tables. To donate to Chung Wah’s 2024 charity partner, Guide Dogs WA, guests placed golden envelopes in the lions’ mouths. We were delighted to participate and contribute to a good cause!
As a trusted healthcare provider for seniors, we at Unicare Health share Chung Wah’s passion for helping older adults stay connected through cultural celebrations. We especially enjoyed supporting and taking part in this meaningful event that brought the community together! In addition to our sponsorship, we distributed gift bags to all attendees, filled with special delights such as cookies and traditional “New Year cakes” Nian gao!
It was wonderful catching up with old friends and making new ones at Chung Wah this year. We wish them another wonderful year ahead and look forward to the next celebration!
