Unicare celebrates lunar new year with aged care leaders, friends and clients at Chung Wah Community & Aged Care
2023 Chinese New Year Longevity Luncheon
Tuesday, 31 January 2023
Chung Wah Cultural Centre, Balcatta
Along with aged care leaders and our friends at Chung Wah Community and Aged Care, we wished the senior asian community a very happy Lunar New Year of the Rabbit and tossed the yusheng (prosperity salad) high to welcome abundance and wealth.
Chung Wah Association Inc. provides community care to over a thousand WA Seniors, with 153 clients over the age of ninety.
Chung Wah’s Chinese New Year Longevity Lunch welcomed 330 senior clients and provided a festive meal for them, as well as their carers, staff, and volunteers.
Hon. Don Punch MLC, Minister for Disability Services; Small Business; Fisheries; Seniors and Ageing, attended the luncheon and wished the senior Asian community a happy Lunar New Year. He praised Western Australia’s multiculturalism and even spoke a few words in mandarin.
“The Chung Wah Association is a great example of the importance of providing tailored care for culturally and linguistically diverse seniors and I congratulate them on the great work they’re doing.” – Don Punch MLA on Facebook
The City of Stirling’s Mayor, Mark Irwin, thanked Chung Wah Community and Aged Care for celebrating seniors in the community and praised their ongoing work to provide care, social activities, and health benefits to the city’s older Asian population.
Mrs. Theresa Kwok, CEO of Chung Wah Community Care and 2023 WA Senior Australian of the Year Award recipient, is a true inspiration and visionary leader to many. She is well respected for her 35-year contribution to improving the quality of life of non-English-speaking seniors and people with disabilities.
It was truly inspiring to see so many influential leaders praising the event and applauding Chung Wah Community and Aged Care’s efforts to support and care for the elderly Asian community.
It was heart-warming to watch everyone enjoying the festivities, which included cultural performances, lion dances, and calligraphy.
Many seniors who live alone valued the dress-up opportunity to attend an auspicious celebration.
