Accessible Accommodation in Perth: Unicare Health Project at Rocky Bay Lady Lawley Cottage, Cottesloe

Rocky Bay - Lady Lawley Cottage
8 Gibney St, Cottesloe 6011

Unicare Health recently completed a specialised equipment installation at Rocky Bay Lady Lawley Cottage in Cottesloe, Perth, supporting high-quality short-stay accommodation for families living with disability.
This project demonstrates how the right combination of assistive technology and thoughtful design can create environments that are accessible, safe, comfortable, and adaptable to a wide range of care needs.

Purpose-Built Accessible Accommodation in Perth
This Family Short Stay Disability Accomodation has been developed as modern, fully accessible accommodation for families travelling to Perth for appointments, therapy, or respite. The site includes two self-contained apartments, “Osprey” and “Norfolk Pines”, designed to feel like home while supporting mobility, care, and independence.
A key success factor in this project is the seamless integration of clinical-grade equipment into a non-clinical setting, ensuring the space remains welcoming while delivering essential functionality.

Supplying the Right Equipment for the Environment
Unicare Health was engaged to supply and install Winncare’s Luna Ceiling Hoists, alongside the Xcel 3 and Xcel 3 Pro Nursing Care Beds.

Each solution was carefully selected to address the core requirements of accessible accommodation, including safe transfers, fall prevention, and adaptable positioning. By aligning equipment with real-world use, the space is better equipped to support both residents and caregivers.

Luna Ceiling Hoists: Safe, Flexible Transfers
Safe and efficient transfers are essential in any accessible accommodation setting, particularly where families may not have full-time care support. The Luna Ceiling Hoist system provides a flexible and intuitive solution that reduces physical strain while improving safety.

Its ability to switch between fixed and portable configurations allows the system to adapt across rooms and layouts, making it ideal for multi-use environments. Smooth start and stop functionality ensures controlled, gentle lifting, improving comfort and confidence during transfers.

Designed for real-world conditions, the Luna system can be safely used in wet areas such as bathrooms thanks to its water-resistant components. Features like quick-release functionality, intuitive controls, and built-in emergency safety systems make it practical and easy to use.
With a lifting capacity of up to 275kg in fixed mode, the Luna Ceiling Hoist supports a wide range of users while enabling dignified, low-risk transfers and reducing manual handling demands.

Xcel 3 Pro: Advanced Safety and Positioning
The Xcel 3 Pro Nursing Care Bed delivers advanced safety, positioning, and clinical flexibility, making it well suited to short-stay environments where user needs may vary.
Its ultra-low minimum height of 110mm significantly reduces fall risk, while preset functions such as Safe Sleep Position and Bed Exit Height improve safety and support easier transfers. Advanced positioning options, including Trendelenburg and vascular support, allow the bed to adapt to more complex care requirements.

Pressure care is enhanced through auto-regression, reducing shear during repositioning, while user-friendly features like backlit controls and auto-levelling ensure safe operation at any time of day.
With a 250kg safe working load, built-in extension, and multiple sizing options, the Xcel 3 Pro offers a high level of adaptability, safety, and reassurance.

Xcel 3: Reliable, Everyday Care Support
Designed for home care environments, the Xcel 3 Nursing Care Bed provides reliable, easy-to-use functionality for daily needs.
It supports smooth electric positioning for comfort and mobility, while auto-regression helps minimise pressure and shear. Built with high-quality LINAK components, the bed delivers quiet operation and long-term reliability.
Practical features such as central locking, backlit controls, and removable head and footboards ensure ease of use for carers, making it a strong fit for flexible accommodation environments.

A Cohesive Equipment Solution
What makes this project successful is how these solutions work together within the space. By combining flexible lifting systems with both bed options, the apartments are equipped to support a wide range of users.
Residents benefit from greater comfort, safety, and independence, while families experience more manageable care routines. At the same time, care providers are supported with reduced physical strain and improved efficiency.

Supporting Better Outcomes with the Right Equipment
Accessible accommodation requires more than compliance. It requires equipment that performs reliably in real-world conditions. This project highlights how the right solutions can reduce risk, improve user experience, support diverse care needs, and deliver long-term reliability in high-use environments.
