Unicare develops a stunning collection of patient recliners for St John of God Subiaco Hospital
St John of God Subiaco
Hospital Redevelopment
Our friends at St John of God (SJOG) Subiaco Hospital have undertaken a major redevelopment project.
This is the largest redevelopment in SJOG Subiaco’s history.
The addition of an eight-story clinical building with a mother and baby unit, a heart centre, and six new operating theatres is part of this redevelopment.

A Patient Recliner Solution for this project
In 2020, SJOG Healthcare contacted Unicare Health about replacing their fleet of recliner chairs.
We learned from honest and open discussions that some of the problems they were experiencing included
- low seat to floor height
- small and difficult-to-maneuver castors
- sagging seats
- slumped backrests
- a lack of lifting capabilities
Careful clinical considerations were taken during the furniture and equipment design process to develop a range of new electric reclining mobile hospital patient armchairs to meet the needs of both patients and caregivers. Patient equipment centre staff, short-stay recovery unit staff, and maternity unit staff provided ongoing input and feedback through the design process. The goal was to find a balance between functional and innovative features of furniture and equipment, as well as clinical requirements.
The Result
The result was hospital seating with a stunning combination of comfort, colour, ergonomics, and functionality.
These electric reclining mobile hospital patient armchairs feature
- Incorporated mobile base with large castors
- Electric lift function
- Exceptional infection control properties
- 2 motor tilt in space capabilities
- Ergonomic push handle
- and more
