On a beautiful autumn day, our team from Unicare Health hit the greens at the prestigious Mount Lawley Golf Club for the annual Brightwater Charity Golf Day. As the main sponsor of this charity event, we were proud to support this highly anticipated event that raises funds for Brightwater's clients living with Huntington's disease.
Huntington's Disease: A Challenging Journey
Huntington’s Disease is an inherited disease affecting areas in the brain which control, movement, thinking, and emotion. It has a slow progression, and symptoms gradually worsen over time. It is a genetic disorder caused by a gene mutation and is passed on, or inherited from a person’s parents. There is a 50% chance of the children of a person who has Huntington’s Disease also having the faulty gene and develop the disease.
Earlier this year, Brightwater opened its doors to its new Piara Waters house for people living with Huntington’s Disease. In a world-first, this architecturally-designed site is a far cry from the group home and hospital-style environment those living with the disease are familiar with, boasting sensory gardens, commercial kitchens for chef-cooked meals, and the latest technology and equipment. This new campus, located on Erade Drive, boasts a state-of-the-art design tailored to accommodate 21 residents across seven specialised homes.

Teeing Off for a Worthy Cause
Our team comprising of Austyn McEwan, Callum Craddock, Llew Pollard, and Jamie Nixon eagerly took to the championship course, teeing off for 18 holes in support of Brightwater's Huntington's clients. The event provided an opportunity for friendly competition, camaraderie, and raising awareness and funds for this important cause.
