Unicare Health teaches ROHO and Bodypoint with Permobil
At the start of the month, we were thrilled to team up with Permobil for a dynamic presentation on two industry-renowned equipment ranges that address seating and mobility needs: ROHO pressure care cushions and Bodypoint positioning devices. With insightful lessons taught by seasoned experts, attendees gained practical knowledge to enhance their client care.
Completing the Seating and Positioning Puzzle
– Demystifying ROHO cushions and Bodypoint positioning devices
Tuesday, 5 March 2024
Technology Park Function Centre, Bentley
We were honoured to have this session led by Permobil’s own Tilly Brook and Magdalena Love. Tilly previously worked within rehabilitation, working primarily with adults with a brain injury until 2015 when she moved to Singapore to work at the Cerebral Palsy Alliance School. She joined Permobil in January 2022 as a clinical services specialist and is driven to empower the next generation of therapists, enabling them to be the best they can be. Tilly was joined by Magdalena, who boasts over a decade of experience with Permobil, both as a clinical educator and as a territory manager. Magdalena works to develop and implement training programs that equip health professionals with the skills and insights to enhance their patient care.
What are ROHO Cushions?
ROHO is a worldwide industry-leading range of cushions that treat and prevent pressure injuries, including deep tissue injuries, while protecting skin and soft tissue. They utilise an innovative “dry flotation” technology featuring interconnected air cells that conform to the user’s shape, providing effective pressure relief and redistribution. The individual air cells are made of smooth, pliable neoprene that minimises shear and friction forces during movement and repositioning.
ROHO cushions come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes to meet your client’s unique needs. Options like the Roho Contour Select have anatomically shaped surfaces to keep the position of the pelvis fixed. Meanwhile, hybrid models like the ROHO Hybrid Select incorporate foam bases for extra stability. But why do we call these ‘Select’ models? In fact, it’s because they feature an ISOFLO Memory Control valve: an intuitive control system for quick and simple pressure adjustments.
How do ROHO Cushions work?
Proper ROHO setup is crucial for achieving optimal immersion, envelopment, and pressure redistribution. When you’re setting up your ROHO, you should not leave it fully inflated. Instead, a properly adjusted cushion should only have enough air to suspend the client about 1.5-2.5 cm above the seat surface. A hand check can help you measure this. For clients needing extra stability, the ROHO Quadtro Select divides the air cells into four quadrants. Because of this, you can fine-tune your client’s positioning by altering the inflation in specific areas. This makes the Quadtro Select especially helpful for clients with an uneven weight distribution.
By allowing the user to sink into the cells, the air moulds to their unique shape. This helps them to feel like they are comfortably floating above the seat surface. At the seminar, attendees enjoyed getting familiar with these cushions in person. They also had the chance to get comfortable with setting up ROHO cushions for each other.
Bodypoint Positioning Devices
After a quick break for lunch, we turned our attention to positioning devices. Bodypoint is a high-quality range of positioning belts and straps that enhance safety, comfort, and function for individuals who use wheelchairs and other mobility devices. These products are rigorously tested to meet ISO standards, and are highly trusted for reliability and long-term performance. Plus, when it comes to shower chair belts, Bodypoint products feature their patented Aeromesh technology. This breathable and quick-drying material protects skin health and promote improved hygiene.
A key benefit of Bodypoint devices is the extensive customisation available. Numerous buckle types, attachment points, lengths, and hardware options enable you to precisely match your equipment to your client’s needs. This versatility makes Bodypoint an ideal solution for upper body, pelvic, and lower body positioning. We had fun helping attendees learn about the features and functions of Bodypoint belts and practice setting them up!
Key Takeaways
Proper use of ROHO cushions and Bodypoint positioning devices can profoundly impact clients’ posture, pressure redistribution, stability, and skin integrity. With the insights learned through this seminar, attendees gained the skills to use these products to their full potential. In doing so, they gained the tools to improve outcomes and quality of life for those in their care.
