A shower commode is a portable chair that is made of water-resistant materials and features a wide aperture in the base of the seat. It is similar to a wheelchair in design, and allows people with limited mobility to shower and use the toilet independently without dangerous transfers between multiple chairs. As such, shower commodes are a great solution for increasing safety and independence in the bathroom.
There are a few different types of shower commode that you may wish to consider. For example:
- Attendant propelled shower commodes have integrated push handles, which a caregiver can use to position the user over the toilet or in the shower.
- Self-propelled shower commodes allow users to manoeuvre themselves to the shower and toilet for personal hygiene tasks without assistance.
- Tilt-in-space shower commodes recline and tilt to provide comfort, stability and optimum posture for toileting and showering.
