Unicare Health’s training team provides targeted clinical education opportunities for assistive technology prescribers.
Our introductory opportunities allow undergraduate occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and pharmacy students to improve their understanding of assistive technology and build equipment confidence through practice.
This is particularly useful for students preparing for pracs, internships and other professional education experiences.
We love contributing to Edith Cowan University‘s (ECU) assistive technology program.
In this series of seating and pressure care labs, occupational therapy undergrads learned how to relate clinical advantages of seating equipment to use and application.
This session provided an introduction to the clinical features of air, gel, foam and other materials when used as a pressure care seat cushion.
It discussed the differences in postural stability, pressure care, transfer stability, care and maintenance related to cushion examples from Jay, ROHO, Action, Equagel and others.
This was especially useful in helping undergrads understand the therapeutic benefits behind different cushion choices.
Students enjoyed the opportunity to sit on different types of pressure-relieving cushions, look inside JAY cushions, inflate ROHO cushions and learn through practical application.
Timely for these undergrads preparing for aged care prac, this education was especially useful and relevant to their real-world learning.
Students were rewarded with Krispy Kremes for their enthusiastic participation and efforts in learning how to set up ROHO cushions.
Thank you
