At Unicare Health, we are deeply invested in supporting causes that bring comfort and relief to those in need. With 150,000 Australians receiving a cancer diagnosis each year, access to support is crucial for enhancing overall well-being. Whether it's through community groups or medical research, every donation plays a vital role in the fight against cancer. That's why we joined forces with our friends at Occupational Therapy Support Services Group (OTSG) for a Biggest Morning Tea, to raise funds and make a meaningful impact on cancer prevention across Australia.

Every year, Biggest Morning Tea is a wonderful chance for people across Australia to pitch in to help people that have been affected by cancer. By donating and sharing over a lovely cup of tea, we can contribute to reducing the impact of cancer for those who need it most. It was heartwarming to see how everyone from Unicare Health and OTSG donated generously to this cause, as we shared our experience and found strength in contributing towards a brighter future.
At Unicare Health, our work lies in supporting occupational therapists across Western Australia, equipping them with essential assistive technology solutions that enhance independence and quality of life for those they serve. Together with OTSG, we share a profound commitment to the transformative power of care. By combining our expertise and resources, we ensure that the individuals we serve together have access to assistive technologies tailored to their unique needs.
We were thrilled to welcome the OTSG team to our Assistive Technology Experience Hub, where they could explore and experience our newest range firsthand. This immersive experience empowered them with the knowledge and understanding necessary to guide their clients effectively, ensuring they received the most appropriate solutions.
From electric profiling beds and wheelchairs to walkers and mobility aids, our purpose-built, fully accessible space offers a comprehensive exploration of the latest assistive technology solutions. During our Biggest Morning Tea event, the air was filled with the scent of cupcakes, coffee, and pastries as we chatted about assistive technology solutions.
The Impact of Our Collective Efforts
The Biggest Morning Tea represents Australia's foremost fundraising initiative for cancer support. Every dollar raised has supported the Cancer Council's life-saving research, prevention, support programs, and education. Through our tremendous joint efforts, we raised over $1,000 at the morning tea alone, leading to a total donation of $2,814 when combined with OTSG and Unicare's fundraising endeavours throughout the month. With this support, the Cancer Council will be able to fund crucial gene research in the pursuit of new treatments and further bolster community groups, counselling services, and other initiatives to safeguard against cancer and support our country's well-being.
Thank you to our speaker from the Cancer Council, Ros Natalotto, who shared illuminating facts and figures for us. Did you know that:
- An estimated 2 in 5 people (or 43%) will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85?
- Drinking alcohol increases your risk of developing cancer? That's why the national guidelines recommend no more than 10 standard drinks a week, and no more than 4 on any one day.
- Sun exposure can still reach damaging levels on cool or cloudy days? That's why it's so important to stay sun smart even on winter days!
The morning tea wrapped up with a raffle draw, where one lucky OT took away a hamper of quality prizes. And to the winner of our crazy hat competition, we raise our cups! There were some strong contenders, but nothing says 'tea party' quite like a tiered cake stand!
